You are invited to Adagio Ballet’s FREE Celebration of NATIONAL DANCE WEEK!
WHAT: National Dance Week’s mission is to “expose and introduce as many people as possible to the enjoyment and benefits of dance through promoting dance in schools, expanding community awareness, and increasing professional development.” At Adagio Ballet and Dance School, we will fulfill this mission through a series of events, contests, and performances.
WHEN: Saturday, April 27th through Saturday, May 4th.
WHERE: Adagio Ballet’s Arlington Location.
National Dance Week Ongoing Events:
– Early Years Draw a Picture Contest (ages 3-5.5): Theme of “Dancing with my Teacher”, submissions due April 26, winner will be announced on May 3.
– Poster Contest (ages 6+): Theme of “Your favorite ballet, dance company, or dancer”, submissions due April 26, winner announced May 3.
– Essay Contest (ages 8+): Theme of “What dance means to me”, submissions due April 26, winner announced May 3.
– All entries will decorate the school walls throughout the celebration! There will be a small participation gift for all submitters.
National Dance Week Schedule of Activities:
Saturday, April 27th:
Choreography Contest (please see guidelines below):
6-9 year olds: 3:00-4:00pm
10+ year olds: 4:00-5:00pm
Adult Student Night:
5:30-6:00pm: Dance Showing by Adagio Ballet Adult Students.
6:00-6:30pm: Post-performance viewing of “Pina” with wine & cheese mini-reception.
6:30-7:00pm: Professional faculty showing, showcasing the works of Company Danzante.
Sunday, April 28th:
Movie Night and Pizza:
4:30-6:00: Showing of the documentary “First Position” and pizza.
-This event is for students Ballet/Jazz/Tap Intensive, Junior, and Teen levels.

Saturday, May 4th:
National Dance Week Celebration:
4:00-5:00pm
-Contemporary Choreography Master class with Mr. Arturo and Ms. Rachael (all ages).
-Sign up at the front desk or email to reserve a spot.
5:00-6:00pm
-Ballet and Jazz/Contemporary Company Performances
-Special Preview of the Intensive Tap Recital pieces!
-Adagio Ballet Faculty Showing: Ms. Caitlin (Dissonance Dance Theater), Mr. Arturo & Ms. Rachael (Company Danzante), Ms. Rachael and Ms. Kyoko (Choreography by Kyoko Ruch)
*CHOREOGRAPHY CONTEST GUIDELINES:*
-Pieces may include up to 4 dancers, please try to involve a friend who is new to dance in celebration of National Dance Week!
-Pieces may include ballet, jazz, modern, and tap techniques or any combination of those!
-Dances can be up to 1.5 minutes long.
-Music must be provided by Students on iPad or iPod device.
-Sign up at the front desk by Monday, April 15th!
-All choreographers’ and friends will perform in our Black Box Theater during our National Dance Week Celebration on Saturday, April 27th!
-Participation gift and prizes will be awarded!
