This summer, some of our intermediate and advanced level intensive students went to train at summer intensives across the country. The programs included The Rock School Summer Ballet Intensive, American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive Program, Joffrey Jazz/Contemporary Intensive and Bolshoi Ballet Academy Summer Intensive. We’re excited to have them back for the 2017-18 School Year and hear all about their experiences!
My experience at Joffrey was a good experience because the style there was different and I was encouraged to do a lot of stuff that I wasn’t used to. My favorite class I did there was improv and I also enjoyed the performance we did at the end.

Joffrey was a fun, new experience that I really enjoyed. The teachers at Joffrey had a different style that I had never experienced, so it was really fun to try out and experiment with new styles of movement. The intensive was also more competitive than what I was used to, but I think it made me work harder! I think I became more creative with my movement and improved my performance quality through the various classes we took, like hip hop and improv. I was mostly challenged by the ballet classes we took, but I think I have improved through them, and have a better understanding of what I have to work on. So when I get back to the studio, I can start working hard on my corrections!
-Lily Dines, Jazz and Modern Intensive Student“I loved performing there! I also loved learning the difference in dance styles that Rock and Adagio teach.”
-Chloe Yang, Ballet, Jazz and Modern Intensive Student
This summer I attended American Ballet Theater’s summer intensive in Austin, Texas. The program was amazing; it was an incredible experience. I had the opportunity to take classes with teachers including Wes Chapman, Roger Van Fleteren, and many other former ABT dancers. There was a great variety of classes we got to take including musical theater, pilates, and partnering. Since I am older, we got to do a lot of partnering, which was a very enriching experience, as I had only had one partnering class prior to this summer. Overall this summer was fantastic! I made great friends and had a great time learning from the amazing staff!

This summer was amazing! It was my first summer intensive that was out of state, and I had such a great time! I had so many fantastic classes, even one with one of the directors of The Rock! There were so many talented dancers there, some all the way from Peru, Taiwan, and California! I feel like I improved so much. It was one of the best summers I’ve ever had, and I can’t wait to audition next year!
