Ms. Sofia

Ms. Sofia Tsanova was born in Sofia, Bulgaria to a family of principal dancers. Sofia grew up in the ballet studio of National Ballet and Opera Theatre of Sofia, watching classes and rehearsals. At the age of five she attended the private ballet studio of Maria Ilieva, who was also a principal dancer at the National Ballet of Sofia. Later at the age of ten she was accepted into the National School for Dance Arts where she studied the Vaganova style of ballet as well as contemporary, character, historical dance, Bulgarian folk dance, partnering, repertoire, pointe, theory of music, and piano.
 
Sofia has been taking part in the performances of National Ballet and Opera Theatre since the age of seven. In 2001, she studied at the Sun Wha School of Ballet in Seoul, South Korea, under the Vaganova style teachers: Vera Solovyova and Nikolav Levitsky. There she also participated in the School’s showcases and later performed and toured as the youngest dancer at the Universal Ballet Company. Sofia was enrolled at the New World School of the Arts, where she studied ballet, modern, dance composition, and the Martha Graham technique. Recently, Sofia successfully completed a Summer Intensive Program at the Kirov Academy of Ballet. In August 2011, Sofia received her certification as an American Ballet Theatre Teacher.
