Jazz

The Adagio Ballet Jazz curriculum perfectly compliments our ballet program. The Jazz curriculum is based on the classical jazz dance technique, with influences incorporated from modern jazz, hip-hop, street jazz and Broadway styles. The Jazz program focuses on flexibility, rhythm, extension, balance, speed, and strong movement, preparing students for a lifetime of dancing.

We follow the typical jazz class format of building strength, balance and extension through isolations, rhythmic exercises, floor stretches, across the floor patterns, and dance combinations. The class format remains the same through the different levels, while the movements continue to increase in complexity as students grow technically and physically. Just as the ballet program progresses along the natural physical and social development of the dancer, the jazz program integrates rhythm and music games, social interaction and partnering, improvisation and constructive peer feedback into the classes. Strong stage presence and performance are also strongly emphasized in the Jazz curriculum.
Our Intensive Jazz program is designed for Students who are interested in learning the jazz dance form in all of its complexity. The Intensive Jazz levels meet twice a week, and progressively focus on increasing strength, flexibility, and stamina. Intensive Students' technique and artistic skills are developed as across the floor combinations become more complex and require high levels of dance coordination, as well as the ability to memorize and learn at a faster pace. Intensive Jazz Students will be introduced to improvisation, Modern technique and influence, and "competition jazz" components. Students will consistently work on higher jumps, stronger movements, and quicker steps, as they explore every aspect of the Jazz dance form. classes Next:
Our Beginning Jazz Students learn the foundations of this exciting dance form by learning to find the rhythm in music, mastering basic arms-legs-head coordination, learning proper body alignment and posture, and learning combinations increasing in length and complexity. classes Next:
Our Intermediate Jazz Students further develop their musicality to understand syncopation in choreography and to make active use of jazz technique and proper alignment. At this point of their study, our Students solidify their ability to understand choreography on an emotional level while memorizing its details on a technical level. As Students further develop speed and quality of turns; spotting, alignment, and fast footwork, they also focus on self-correction, following vocal instruction, and demonstrating strong vocabulary knowledge. Another main focus of this level is developing further strength in order to allow large and technically advanced leaps and jumps.
classes Next:
Junior Jazz Students build on their beginner foundation to combine body isolations into traveling steps, to successfully complete simple turns and to display correct body alignment in small jumps. Junior Jazz Students spend more time doing accross the floor combinations as they improve their musicality and spacial awareness. Another focus of the Junior Jazz levels is the Students' understanding of the connection between technical movements/choreography with the meaning/character of the dance piece.

Junior Dance classes is a level from the Adagio Ballet's curriculum that includes classes in the following levels for all the dance forms at Adagio Ballet. Junior I level for Ballet, Jazz, Tap; Junior II level for Ballet, Jazz, Tap; Junior III level for Ballet, Jazz, Tap. classes Next:
Our Teen Jazz program is specifically designed for teenage Students who have had limited or no formal exposure to the jazz dance form. Often times, these are Students who took dance when they were much younger, and other times they are simply "late bloomers" who are eager to learn something new. We are happy to welcome such Students to our Teen Ballet program because we believe they have a great capacity to learn when placed in a structured and dynamic learning environment. The general goals of our Teen Jazz program are to instill love and appreciation for the art of jazz dance in Students, to introduce and expand on the foundations of the jazz technique, and to lengthen and strengthen muscles while developing coordination, musicality and appreciation for the jazz dance. classes Next:
